Meet Dr. Robert Kalyesubula

Dr. Robert, as one of our principal investigators, supervises all our project activities based on his wide-ranged internationally gained experience in global health.

Dr. Robert, a native of the Nakaseke district, is a nephrologist who specializes in non-communicable diseases. He is the president of ACCESS Uganda and the principal investigator of the Balamu project. He has started this project together with Dr. Felix aiming to improve Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) research, education and care in rural Uganda. His main role in our team is the supervision of our project activities based on his wide-ranged internationally gained experience in internal medicine and global health. As a nephrologist, his main interests are in hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
„Like many other LMICs, Uganda faces a dual disease burden: an increase in NCDs prevalence alongside the present high rates of IDs. The NCDs burden is exacerbating rapidly and is expected to overtake IDs as the leading cause of death over the next decade. The threatening NCD burden in Uganda needs to be further addressed and investigated. Using a model based on community health workers, we aim to make a sustainable difference through Balamu NCD Research, Education and Care.”
Dr. Robert has early dedicated his career to serving the less benefited people in Uganda suffering from infectious diseases and non-communicable ones. Dr. Robert’s aim is to empower people to achieve their dreams through better access to health care and health education.
