Meet James Sewanyana

James works as a clinical officer in our NCDs clinics.

James works as a clinical officer in the three clinics of the Balamu project. If you call on him at ACCESS, you might find him in the clinic with a patient, on the phone securing medical supplies for LifeCare Clinic or school materials for the Health Training Institute. Most of his day he is in the community calling on patients at home, working with our community health workers or meeting with community leaders to support the Balamu project. High-quality research and patient-centered education are at the core of his work. He is constantly on the move, connecting people, procuring materials, and delivering services in order to fulfill the mission of Balamu to minimize global health inequities by strengthening local care structures through NCD research, education, and care.
“In Uganda, we saw that there was a gap in NCDs care. So after starting this project, I feel we have made a change in our community.
James is known in Nakaseke as musawo (Luganda for “doctor”). He lives and works with our partner project ACCESS in Nakaseke. Furthermore, he serves as the primary clinician at Life Care Center and oversees ACCESS’ programs in Nakaseke. As a well-known and trusted figure in the community, he helps building trust in our work and services. He is constantly on the move, connecting people, procuring materials and delivering services in order to fulfill ACCESS mission to serve Nakaseke with better healthcare and a brighter future for its children.
